Avani Rao Gandra is an Abstract Expressionist. What's that in English, you say? The term refers to someone whose paintings focus on form and color, rather than on specific objects. Abstract Expressionism is a technique not very commonly found in the Indian artscape.

As another means of expression, Dr. Rao experiments with collages on glass. Occasionally, she uses the computer to create a skeletal image, which she then fills using a variety of material, ensuring the texture and flexibility of creation in mixed media.
