NOT just a forum for the rich and jobless, thank you very much. The Kakatiya Ladies Club is quite clear on that point, and equally keen on its real purpose: the serving of the underprivileged. No, really!
The Ladies Club was conceived primarily as a PR exercise for the Hotel, and has since become an important brand. Fun events, plays, art shows, theme parties, informative talks by cosmetologists, dieticians etc. are held regularly for the edification of its members, of which there are around 225.
What is heartening about the Club is the wide array of meaningful social services it renders to the deserving. Money is raised through art auctions and other events, and groups, like
Lepra India and the Government Rehabilitation Centre for the Mentally Challenged, have benefitted greatly. The distribution of scholarships for poor students and sewing machines for needy women have helped many gain an education and a livelihood.
The Club also works outdoors, teaching street children and organising free dental and medical camps. Who says you can't be nice
and popular?
