Music Zone

Set in a residential area, Music Zone offers a relaxed and informal environment for aspiring people to seek out their musical dreams. It's run by Vanitha Quraishy, a delightful lady very passionate about music, possibly more so about imparting the gift to others.

Raised in a family of musicians, Quraishy has always loved music. For her, teaching music started with the formation of Victory Music School at Abids, with her two brothers. After a while, she moved on and started Music Zone, "A Place Where Music Should Be", right in her own home. An Educationalist by profession, she is also the organist at Methodist Church on Chapel Road.

Students of all ages are welcome here, the youngest currently being just 6 years old - it doesn't really matter if you haven't got a single musical bone in your body. Quraishy is very determined in providing motivation and easy methods, and also in retaining interest, as she believes that music itself is inspiring.

Music Zone teaches students the guitar, piano, keyboard and vocals, as well as Western vocals in Western classical music from the basics to higher levels. Students are required to bring their own instruments, and classes are in the evenings from 3:30pm to 8pm.

There are two courses for a student to choose from. The first is the short term course (a crash course) for Rs. 1,800. It's about 5 weeks long (but would normally take 3 months to finish), with classes on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday evenings. The other, the long term course, can go on for as long as the student likes, and is Rs. 700 a month, with classes on Wednesday and Saturday evenings.

While Music Zone is indeed a small school taking on just 6 students in a batch, it does offer the formal training of the Trinity College of Music at London, UK, for students who are interested in international grade examinations. These special courses are a year long, and are priced higher.
