"We target the 25-plus age group. Our outfits are not an apology for the older woman or the large-sized woman, but an acknowledgement that differences exist, with the underlying truth being that all women like to look good and be complimented," says Nisha Somia, Director, Revolutions Clothing.
And truer words were never spoken, aver all those who know just how frustrating it is to look at those tiny clothes displayed seductively all over the
Lifestyles and
Shoppers' Stops of the world. As it may be, it is relatively easy to find plus-sized ethnic clothing, given that middle-aged Indian women that are the badly out of shape are a large segment of the spending population. However, it is Western wear, which is rather unforgiving when styled and cut shoddily, that is ever so hard to find.
Revolutions, an initiative by Delhi based designers, reaches out to just that category of people who would love to get into a pair of well-fitted pants but cannot find a size or fit. A sensible store with thoughtful nuances is the nice part. Then, the selection of clothes is frankly outstanding.
You have a size chart that clearly indicates the measurements and corresponding sizes of clothing available. It also provides equivalent US and European sizes for the inevitably globe-trotting customer.
The store has sober prints, not to be mistaken with conciliatory ones, and colors well suited for someone comfortable in her own skin. The sizes start at 28" waist and 36" bust sizes and go up ...well, quite a way. The prices, on the other hand, remain well within the range of Rs. 800 to Rs. 1,500 for tops. Jeans, skirts and formal pants are correspondingly priced.
They even have the most non-pentinent lingerie collection which is imminently wearable, and even smart warm clothing - jackets and coats, for all those jet-setting clients.
Here is a store that not only affirms the existence of the stylish, successful, albeit out-of-shape Indian woman, but also delights in her.
