It all started with
Dil To Pagal Hai.
Summer Funk, the SDIPA's biggest event of the year, is what started it all off. After one summer in Hyderabad, they decided that the city was, after all, ready for some serious dancing around. People, it seemed, just could not stop signing up for the course, and even today you'll find that every batch has at least a couple of students who were there before. It's like an addiction.
Even the most shy, most stage-scared person keeps coming back for more. Why? Because they have a ball. You only have to watch a class in progress to feel the good energy just sloshing about.
Interestingly, no one's inhibited, and even with stangers standing around, trying to take a few pictures does nothing to distract the sweating, jumping, twirling, jiving bunch of them. SDIPA is good for people who want to lose weight (one of the less torturous ways), build self-confidence (you don't have to slide under the table when the band strikes you anymore), or have a fun time with their friends, partner, parents or colleagues (if watching someone do the Ketchup song doesn't break the ice, nothing will).
This is apparent from the crowd you will see at an SDIPA show, which marks the end of each batch. From little children, to gawky school-goers, to 60-year-olds in glittering jumpsuits - they're all there.
