BackgroundThe Society for Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture among Youth, or SPICMACAY, is a household name that conjures up images of people on the wrong side of, er, 60, fiddling around with instruments that went out of fashion with the Cholans and generating soporific tunes they call music. Despite this reputation, SPICMACAY works hard to ensure that the Generation SRK does not forget the music and dance forms that are so closely interwoven with our history and traditions.
ActivitiesSPICMACAY organizes regular concerts,
keertans, performances and lecture demonstrations to enable the common man to understand and identify with various art forms. Admission to all SPICMACAY events is free. The organization is most active in the state of Rajasthan.
Membership And Volunteer OpportunitiesSPICMACAY gives genuinely passionate artists a platform to showcase their talent and to continue to practice their respective artforms. Funding comes in the form of government grants, corporate encouragement and individual sponsorship.
The Hyderabad chapter of SPICMACAY is an informal group that meets every Saturday at 4:30pm at
Vidyaranya. There is no office and there are no staff. These people work with college students to arrange shows and publicize their events.
If you are based in Hyderabad and would like to help SPICMACAY organize its events, all you have to do is land up at the next Saturday meeting. If you know an artist who would like to give a performance, contact Anuradha Reddy.
