CARE India

Background
CARE is an international organization that set up in 1948 worldwide, and in 1950 in India after an agreement was signed with the Government of India. It stands for Co-operation for Assistance and Relief Everywhere. The objective of the organization is to confront the underlying cause of poverty.

CARE India has positively affected the lives of over 6.5 million people located in about 10 states. They work with smaller NGOs for capacity-building, and directly at the grassroot levels.

Activities
Facilitating economic opportunity, tribal empowerment, microfinance, health, nutrition, food distribution, girls' education, self-help and emergency relief measures are some of CARE's important programs. Most of their programs are centered on women and children. Vijaynagaram, Srikakulam, Visakhapatnam, Khammam, Medak and Nalgonda are some of the areas of AP that CARE operates in.

Volunteer Opportunities
The organization operates with the help of full-time staff; interns are taken periodically (especially those from an MSW background). Volunteers are welcome, and can contact Ms. Nalini at the office for further details. Cash donations are accepted only for emergency relief measures.
