All it took to shake
Passport on August 16th were 3 guys who call themselves "Native Tongue". Sunny, Baba and Thamma rolled out one of their more memorable performances till date with A R Rehman's "Maa Tujhe Salaam". The message was loud and clear. Native Tongue was here to stay.
The trio met after the funeral pyre of their earlier band N'grave'N hardly simmered down, to do a gig somewhere in coastal Andhra. These products of Wesley Degree College expected this to be a one-night stand and decided to part ways once the work is done. Sadly the show never did take place, but happily, the affair continued. The boys stayed onto each other and decided to change things a bit. Voila, "Native Tongue" was born. Well, that was their history in a nutshell. Oh, did we also mention that they dream of playing at Wembley Arena too?
Leading with vocals is bassist extraordinaire Samson Subhash Christopher a k a Baba, and he is ably assisted by guitarist Kshem Raj a k a Sunny. Watching these two guys fool around on stage is a giant-of-a-drummer Pradeep Isaac Alexander a k a Thamma. To go by the band's advice, Baba is an "okay" singer, but the crowd thinks otherwise.
Knowingly or unknowingly, with every show this trio is constantly evolving and improving on its skills. Don't let their simple looks and innocent smiles misguide you. You can sit in a cab and joke all day with them without realizing a bit of their rock persona. With fierce patriotic fire in their hearts, this band is all set to tour the country for rock competitions this year. Is Wembley going to "tonguefied" soon?
Psst? heard on the streets: "What's with Baba and his golf cap?"
