Lolling around in the sweltering heat is a bunch of boys and girls. Dressed casually, they snigger, gape and fool around like regular college kids. But don't be mistaken by their appearance; in each of their minds dwells a universe of ideas.
This universe is shown a channel once every year in a college festival called Spectrum. A kaliedoscope of color and design, this festival is their only chance to showcase their talent and burn their verve. And they do this through fashion.
I realize that the only thing the word fashion brings to mind is a row of bulimic girls twisting their way down an aisle, encircled less by light and more by a rabble. The
raison d'ê´²e behind this Rabelaisian exhibition of flexibility is this bunch of students. For, they envisage, they construct and they display. It is quite unfair that they get all the extolments, and the models, all the snickering.
The whole episode of the college festival is carried on in the college premises itself. Outsiders are allowed to witness this festival, and, if they are loaded enough, they can even walk away with the creation. Just remember to look carefully at what you are buying; it could be a dress which looks like jewelry, but it could also be jewelry which looks like a dress.
While seminars and workshops are also conducted during this time, these are meant exclusively for the
NIFTians. The rest of you with your new-fangled possessions can just skittle your time wondering how they came up with something that looks so unlike what it is meant to be.
Enjoy your visit to the abode of the NIFTians, to their creativity and their uniqueness.
