The Scene
A high-energy restaurant designed around a live teppanyaki counter, Cinnabar seems filled with a red, warm glow. Peak hour tends to get pretty crowded and noisy, and the service can be somewhat erratic. As you try to catch the waiter's attention, munch on the complimentary Lettuce Wrap, with its curious and delightful medley of nuts and sauces. A Vietnamese version of our paan.

The Food
Apart from some understandable allowances made for the Hyderabadi palate (sushi sans raw fish), the food here is cooked and served in the traditional way. The teppanyaki counter is what sees most action, with many diners preferring to sit at the live bar and drink in the aromas as the chefs toss and spice expertly.

The succulent Leaf Chicken (deep-fried in banana leaf) and the skewered Sugarcane Prawns are good to get started with. Crispy Fried Vegetables is a spicy vegetarian alternative, but if you want something tamer, go sushi with the Avocado Roll. Sushi consists of a sliver of avocado or salmon wrapped in sticky rice and seaweed, and served with soy sauce and mustard. Neither of these accompaniments does much to salvage the blandness of the dish.

No matter whether you're ordering from the rather large assortment of yakitori (barbequed) meat and vegetables, or eyeing something exotic like the Flambed Chicken in Oyster Sauce, do order the house special Home-made Noodles. This excellent dish goes great even with the familiar Schezwan Chicken.

If you're visiting during summer, you absolutely must have the Mango Swirl for dessert. The rest of the year, you can't go wrong with the gooey chocolate brownie. God bless Anelise.

The Verdict
An increasingly popular joint, Cinnabar is worth a visit if only to see what this "Pan-Asian journey" will yield. Pungent aromas, piquant flavors, and a couple of dishes you've always been curious about. Now you know.
