Most students know that getting into an engineering college is the toughest part. Once you're actually in, you spend the rest of your time industriously making up for all those things you did without for a couple of years, like a life. But there is a certain other group - in the minority, needless to say - who think admission into an engineering institute is just the beginning of a long, long journey. Welcome to Narayanamma.
Founded by the
Pulla Reddy group (yes, the city's favorite sweet merchants), this college takes its role as educator extremely seriously. Students take some 6 internal examinations in a period of 4 months, the principal personally keeps an eye over the entire campus several times a day, and the gates are kept strictly shut from 9am to 4pm (working hours). The reason that many choose the college in spite of the restrictions it imposes is that academically it does deliver results, and being an all-girls campus makes it a 'safer' place in the eyes of anxious parents.
Narayanamma provides good support to its students in terms of infrastructure; the library is stocked with the latest national and international journals, the open-air auditorium is spacious, and even the games section is well-equipped. The college has received a stamp of approval by ISO 9000:2001. The faculty is known to provide adequate personal attention to each student, and the lecturers are generally thought of as a cooperative and friendly lot.
Extra-curricular activity is also encouraged, and the Physical Trainee makes sure nobody sits on the benches when there's a game of volleyball on, which, by the way, is the coolest event on campus. There is a college mag, Sankethika Bharathi, and one major technical event managed by the CSE department, Technoboom. Workshops are also held regularly, especially in the EEE department. Apart from this, there's a separate Center for English Language Learning (CELL), and there are various hobby clubs run by the technical branches.
While the management does strive to maintain a balance between academics and extracurricular activities, it's clear which way the focus is driven. And this is what makes Narayanamma the ideal choice for many.
