The Blue Flower

The Blue Flower
Ghazala Rizvi /
Any worries that youve had about the citys health taking a dip via the fast food onslaught are discounted once you witness the pyramidal silhouette of Taj Krishna against the dusky evening sky. Blue flower, placed in the heart of this hospitality giant, is a true reflection of the citys tradition of glitter, gourmand and glamour.

You dont have to be a bon vivant to appreciate the selection of buffet and a-la-carte on the menu - just remember to don your best silk dress which prominently displays your genuine pearl necklace,(if you want the guarding maharaja to open the glass doors for you). Alternatively, arrive in a Ferrari.

The Scene
Inside the foyer, youll have a moment of getting zonked by the splendor, or of tripping over the diners who are in various stages of self-indulgence over the exotic buffet tables. Once you serpentine your way to the restaurant, you can relax and begin to enjoy the halcyon undertones of the place - even the waiters converse in hushed tones. Blue Flower is caparisoned in elegant blue and white colors, with tasteful satins adorning windows and tables alike. The air is legit with undercurrents of a well-placed market position be it in the table-side manners of the staff or the soft elegant laughter of the co-diners everything speaks of a placid self-assurance.

The Food

Ambience, dcor, panache and gourmand food take a front seat, unless on occasions when you are on illicit or secret rendezvous where you can be happily munching cardboard while perching over soggy and seared seats. But today, as you are here backed by political correctness (a deep hunger laced with the guilt of intended gluttony) youll not be disappointed.

The restaurants specialty is Baghare Baigan (egg-plant sauted in hot chilly-garlic gravy), and skipping any starters for a smack of this scrumptious delicacy is no big sacrifice. If you insist, Blue Flower has a variety of snacks like the ubiquitous Paneer-Tikkas, Cheese-Balls and Spring-Onion Rolls. You can supplement your meal with a South-Indian Non-vegetarian Thali with its Mirchi-ka-Salan and a dumpling of a slightly tuft chicken. There is a selection of North Indian and Mughlai dishes for your palate, and these can be complimented with exotic Masa Mushroom side-dish, another favorite of the restaurants patrons. Any variety of fresh fruit juices can be whipped up for you on a moments notice.

The Verdict
The big daddies of the hospitality biz sometimes flounder on more prominent issues, like good taste. While making an impact with its visual and aural grandeur, Blue Flower offers food that can be graded only slightly above average. Consider money well spent; dinning at Taj could be like aloe for your ego.
