Mostly a place for those with limit-free credit cards and sugar-daddies, Kalanjali is one of those major stores that are exclusive to only Hyderabad, and yet popular both among the local crowds, and among tourists and NRIs. Owned by the same family that runs leviathans like
Eenadu,
ETV,
Ramoji Film City, Usha Kiron Movies and
Margadarsi Chit Funds, the store is ubiquitous with its ads, most of which it gets for free given its media house lineage. And the swanky branding does not overhype the actual wares.
Kalanjali has three sections: saris, readymades, and arts and crafts.
Arts And CraftsKalanjali offers an exhaustive range of artifacts and a separate floor for furniture. Located in the second floor, this segment offers some of the best hand-made draws, cabinets, tables and side-tables, wall panels, et al.
Coming down, you can stroll through the wide hall which houses artifacts from various states. A hot spot for visiting NRIs, Kalanjali also offers some exquisite paintings and wall hangings carved out of wood.
While here, you can pick up some of finest cushion covers, quilts, rugs and bed sheets for your home. Kalanjali also holds exhibitions from time to time, wherein the best of its collection is put on display. The next time you get to know of such a sale, make sure you don't miss it.
SarisEverything from Kanchipurams, Gadwals, Venkatgiris, Dharmavarams, Pochampallys and Banarasi silks are spread here. Prices can go up to Rs. 50,000, so hopefully you're clear that whoever it is for is worth it.
Salwar-KameezesFine expensive salwar kameezes in cottons, chiffons, georgettes etc. While the chiffons and georgettes are worth a buy, the cottons somehow do not seem to stand out in design.
Primarily a store for times when you want to feel opulent, Kalanjali certainly makes up for in presentation what it lacks in wallet-friendliness.
